i have yahoo att dsl dialup. I just connect my pc to the modem, and it dials out automatically (as if i had cable internet).

when i connect my dsl modem to my router, my router doesn't get the ip and all that good stuff. In my router, i've tried changing the settings to DHCP (the setting for cable modem) and PPPo..something. The PPPo..something setting asks me for a login and password, which my DSL modem doesn't need to dial out.

yeah. problem. router can't get ip from modem.

Again, what's the make and model of your router? I have ATT DSL too and my Linksys router works fine controlling wired and wireless IPs. The dsl modem doesn't "dialup" every time you want to access the internet. You only need to login once from the dsl modem's control panel and forget it. Your router doesn't need login info from the dsl modem.

Did you bother to read the link in my post above.

MAC clone is a cable Internet thing.

Static IP works only if your contract is for static IP.

ATT DSL works with PPPOE that needs a configuration of your ID and PW in the Router's WAN menu.

I don't think DSL needs PPPoE. Try setting everything to DHCP. Can you connect to the internet when you directly connect your computer to the modem?

PPPoE, Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet, is a network protocol for encapsulating Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) frames inside Ethernet frames. It is used mainly with ADSL services where individual users connect to the ADSL transceiver (modem) over Ethernet

Some do not use PPPOE any more, most still do use PPPOE, that is why they are giving people Modem/Router combo to avoid the PPPOE software.

It cheaper to give a combo than to pay for the support calls involving the PPPOE Dial Software.

Which means that you were Not aware that your Modem is actually a Modem/Router Combo.
