I'm not really sure which of those is the real problem but lately something is really wrong wtih my internet. I have RoadRunnner cable, using a Motorola SB41000 cable modem and I have a Linksys RT31P2 router.

The problem is that my internet is extremely slow. I don't know why but everytime I try to play games or even browse the internet it goes very slow. The strange thing is that I can download torrents at 300k/s. I've tested my bandwidth at c-net's modem test thing and I usually get 400Kbps.

This has happened several times except this time the bandwidth problems are also effecting the other computer on my network. The previous two times I would run c-net's speed test on that computer and it would have regular speeds but now it's getting similar results.

The first time it happened I remedied it by putting a spare lan card into an empty PCI slot and used that instead of the onboard lan that came with my Asus K8N motherboard. I thought it might be the onboard lan because it happened several days after I installed the motherboard.

I fixed a second time by uninstalling the network cards and reinstalling drivers and eventually it worked again. Now this time I've tried all of that and I still have gotten no results. I've reset my modem and router several times. I tried plugging my computer directly into the modem and was getting the same results. I'm not sure if it's the modem too because the second time it broke and I fixed it, if I plugged directly into the modem I'd still get the slow speeds.

I'm all out of ideas, so hopefully someone knows what I could try.

If you haven't already done so, check for spyware with Ad-Aware and/or Spybot Search & Destroy. Get the latest updates for each, and run them.

If you don't find any spyware, and call your ISP's tech support. They may be able to give you alternative IP addresses for your network settings that will help.

With all the Installing and Uninstalling that has happened, prob your tcp/ip settings are all fouled up.
You can right clik your network connection, clik properties, highlight tcp/ip, and select properties, and see what it says in there, and either just clik to automatically connect, or check back here with the results of your findings.
