I'm buying a domain for myself. I am self employed agent for a company and they want me to use MIRUS. It seems like MIRUS charges an arm & leg for redirects, someone must be getting kickbacks somewhere? Here is what the company recently sent to all their agents on the (I bolded parts I question). Keep in mind this Mirus company charges $65 for 1 year and $165 for 3 years. Godaddy is like $8.99 a year.

2007-240-I: Microsites and Internet Redirects ? Why Mirus?

Don?t be fooled! Not all Internet redirect services are the same.

Not every Internet redirect service offers the same benefits. Before you make a decision, it?s good to understand the differences.

For instance, some companies target a small portion of the insurance seeker population, compared to Mirus Research who targets millions through the Google search engine. In addition, Mirus uses several key word search associations for agent microsites, such as [deleted company name], car insurance, auto insurance, life insurance, homeowner insurance, property insurance, health insurance, mutual funds, banking, home mortgage, refinance, and term insurance.

As part of this year?s effort to increase customer access to our agents, Corporate used their ?buying power? to provide a streamlined way for agents to get their Internet redirect. They recognized the importance of quality connections with customers and the benefits of having a consolidated management of domain names for quicker responses to online marketing opportunities. As a result of their research, they contracted with Mirus Research to help handle the establishment of a redirect for agents.

Mirus offers many benefits including a commitment to not sell agent information and regular maintenance of the URL to the agent?s redirect to prevent broken links.

Google has also approved Mirus? data feed as a "trusted source" of information for [deleted company name] agents. Mirus sends in weekly updates from the Electronic Library to keep agent information current on Google.

In addition, e-mail redirects provided through Mirus are surrounded by the [deleted company name] border protection network, which allows them to be included in the Electronic Library. In fact, due to customer privacy issues, simplified email addresses are only authorized through Mirus.

To find out more the benefits, visit this ?Why Mirus?? page. For any questions about Internet redirects, contact your AFS or access the microsite redirect site.

If you decide to transfer an existing redirect to Mirus, beware of transfer fees. There?s currently one company in the country charging a ?transfer fee? or penalty of up to $100. If your current vendor requires this fee, you are encouraged to call Mirus directly to discuss transfer options.

I've never heard of MIRUS, I would use an established and reputable domain registrar.

Sounds good to me to at a fraction of the price. $8.99 compared to $65. Does godaddy list me on google?

Sounds like a load of BS from a corporation that got sold on something they don't understand.

Out of curiosity... what type of company is this? It sounds sort of like one of those "make money from home" schemes in the works. Please don't tell me you are getting taken for a ride on one of those!

No it's legit :) Actually, I'm a State Farm agent (insurance / financial services). It does sound like corporate BS though!
