Any idea what is the total file-size I'll end up downloading in the end?

My office permits us some freedom in using the net, as long as we don't do anything excessive.

So I need to know what is the typical amount of transferred data with these things? For that matter if anyone has any suggestions for really, really small data internet radio sites/players (like Media Player Classis or Winamp) please suggest them.

Streaming audio and/or video had a surprisingly large effect where I used to work, particularly on our database performance. I had to discourage it pretty strongly; it's not good when your database specialist is ready to put her fist through the monitor :Q

So consider just loading up your music on a flash drive or MP3 player as an alternative.

-sigh- there goes that idea.

You see the thing is I don't get much access to music, so I was hoping to use the streaming internet radio to discover some new tunes.

Also, I'm not into pirating music. So, I don't do those things. But listening to a streaming source I'm ok with.

On the good side of things, we skype a lot in my place. And we don't have need to access an external database. Do you think the streaming audio will be noticed if I do it?

one of my previous workplaces outlawed streaming music, as it used far too much bandwidth. only the privileged few (directors/managers/IT) had access to it. another workplace i worked at allowed it, since streaming audio and video was a necessity for the employees to gather information from their sources. for your place, it will depend highly on how much bandwidth your company has to the outside, how many users will be using it, and if they even allow it at all. for all you know the ports may be closed up.

This is my problem exactly.

I need to know how much bandwidth it uses. Anyone have any ideas I can use to measure it ?

They usually tell you the bitrate of the stream. Use that, add a little bit for overhead, and that's what you're using.

Hmmm... you've given me some food for thought. Let me see how it turns out.
