Hey guys, I am a memebr here, I post in fs/ft mainly. However, I wanted to bother you for a few minutes. Internet Radio is a source of free entertainment for us all. It is at risk of being silenced by the big guys with greedy wallets. Below are some links for you to use to help us contact your local political officials. Please take the time to read the inclosed link and see if you can do your part. Thanks!
Save internet radio
"America's fledgling Internet radio industry could be effectively killed on May 21st if the Librarian of Congress (1) accepts the recommendations of its recent Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panel ("CARP") concerning Internet radio royalty rates and (2) sets impossibly-complex recordkeeping requirements."
The proposed legislation will charge webcasters a per song, per listener fee that will ultimately shut down most sites. A big issue with this is that the RIAA and others are confusing streaming with file-sharing. They think that radio on the internet is like giving away their music when it's not the case at all. It's too involving and a waste of time for most people, we'd rather download mp3's anyway. Not to mention the quality is usually considerably less than cd quality or even 128k. Conventional radio broadcasters are not charged royalty fees to broadcast over the air, they are in fact PAID by the record companies to play songs they want to promote. Internet radio should be no different.
If a Mod can stick this for a while that would be great!
