Just last week my internet in Win2K was working perfectly. But now, I cannot use it at all. This is my problem.

1) I can connect to my ISP, or any ISP that I use. No problem there.
2) When I open internet explorer, it cannot go anywhere!!
3) If I ping www.msn.com, I get the "unknown host" error message.
4) BUT, If I ping 207.46.185.140 instead, I get 4 good ping replies.

Anyone know whats wrong??

Why can't my PC resolve internet domain names now?

The only thing, I can think of to solve this, is another install. :disgust:

Cheers.

Did you specify DNS names somewhere? Most ISPs simply run DHCP and toss you DNS that way. Check ipconfig /all from a dos prompt and see if you have any DNS servers. Probably the problem.

Yeah, I have just added an ISP that uses DNS settings, but still no joy.

Im really thinking that a re-install is the only option!

Can ne1 else help me out here?

Find out what DNS servers your ISP uses (any DNS servers will do, but the ISP's are likely closer to you), and enter the IP addresses in your tcp/ip dns setting.
