I have 1meg dsl.
Verizon jacked up the price to $25/month. (used to be $15/month 2yrs ago, then $20/month last year.)

since it's dsl I must have home phone at $20/month. (basic service)

I called to get them to lower the price. they're not budging. they want me to switch to Fios triple play for $80/month.

I don't have cable now and don't want it. I don't watch TV.
and the only reason why I have a home phone is for DSL.

so now i'm paying $45/month for internet and home phone which I don't use.

I just need Internet. no TV, no phone.

For those that live in Northern VA, what kind of internet can I get for $45/month?

Ask version what the cheapest option is just for internet. We have Fios for $39.99 a month, 15/5 plan.

Cox is the other option for springfield. Comcast has some parts of NoVA as well.

You can get cable without TV. You can also call Verizon, threaten to cancel or tell them you can't afford it and see what kind of deal they'll give you.

Also, weren't there a law that passed saying telecoms cannot bundle phone and dsl together?

Edit: You can also just use your phone's data plan. I know T Mobile lets you tether to your computers out of the box.

Wait, you live in NOVA and you can only get Verizon DSL? Where do you live? We get FiOS here. Comcast is shit in NOVA, can't find a single person that likes them.

He got offered FIOS triple play, which is what all the companies try to sell first.

Just ask for internet only FIOS - i'm sure you can get it for about 40 a month as mentioned above and probably get a significant speed bump.

That $40 offer is probably a promotional rate for one year though. And if you go with that, Verizon's not going to let you go back to DSL.

Correct, its "$74.99" before discount.

When its set to expire we call and if they give us another deal we stay, if not we switch to cox.

We have both Cox and Verzion lines in our house. So its just pull 1 box out and install the other with a phone call after is all it takes

He can get internet only from FiOS. All you have to do is call them and be straight forward about it. All companies want you to get more stuff. Just say no no and keep pushing for what you called for.

I had Cox in Fairfax and Comcast in Loudoun. They both kind of sucked. Now back in Fairfax but with FIOS. FIOS > *

If you really don't want FIOS then either Cox or Comcast depending on where you are will probably give you internet only for around $40-$50. I had Comcast, Internet only, for about that for several years.
