Any experience with this? If there was ever a better forum full of internet addicts to ask - I've yet to see one.

What, if any, kinds of speeds should I be expecting? How will I connect? And so forth.

Looking like it will be a four month gig with six shows per week. So I'll have quite a bit of downtime.

Actually, it looks like I'll be touring with Second City onboard a cruise liner this summer. So I'll be on it for four months. I guess this means I won't be playing L4D in my downtime.

Yeah - Second City:

They have companies on several Norwegian Cruise Ships. Like I said, I'll be on one for a four month gig, so after the first week or so, I imagine it will start to become like any other job ;)

No worries. I'm finding out that they charge $.75 A MINUTE for internet on a boat. Haven't we technologically progressed past that as a society? That's worse than AOL in it's heyday.

If you're in the middle of the freakin' ocean wouldn't they have to bounce it off a satellite or something?

Yes, but you can also get satellite internet for $60 a month @ 10x dialup speeds.

Last time I was on ship it was $.50 a minute.

I can't believe they can't wire a cruise liner with Cat5.

You can get dial-up in your stateroom cheap if you have a laptop and if you don't mind it disconnecting every 30 seconds. !!!!:|:|:|:|!!!!

Maybe the newer ships have it.

If you are doing Alaska then get a cell phone and provider that allows tethering. Obviously wont work on sea days but in ports it will be fine.
