Internet Issues

For over a year now, I've had an issue where web pages won't load properly. Sometimes this means images won't load, other times the page will only partially load certain elements, and other times it just won't load the page at all. Usually a combination of turning off both my modem and my router gets things back to normal for about a week or more before the issue arises again. At this rate, the issue was tolerable.

However, now it's happening CONSTANTLY. Resetting my internet does nothing. I have run virus/malware searches, I've bought a new modem, I've gone from a dynamic router IP to a static one, I've wiped ALL forwarded ports, I've turned UpnP off and back on again, I've used other browsers and multiple websites.

To say I'm tired of this would be a grave understatement. To top things off, in the last week that things have suddenly become worse, the internet will now randomly drop out and once more force me to reset both modem and router. And after having done this so long, it doesn't ever seem to worth unless I do both together. This issue extends to all devices I connect to my network.

I could really use some help here, guys. I'm truly at my wit's (and patience's) end with this problem. My only working theory right now is that maybe my router is dying out? Are these typical signs? It -is- a rather old router, afterall. I've experienced net drops before, and if it's modem based or due to my line, I always see the DSL light on the modem go down. In these recent drops, the modem is fine... it's as if the internet has just decided to stop working.

EDIT: Internet speed has never been affected by this, and save for the times that the net has completely dropped, I can continue downloads or maintain a connection to online games.

If the DSL connection light turns off on the modem, then it's either the modem or the phone line/DSL connection. I recommend that you call your ISP and have them test the lines, preferably at at a time when the connection is not working.

Sorry if my wording was confusing, I meant that the modem DSL light is NOT dropping out. The modem is steady when the internet drops.

Try changing your DNS to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and see if it resolves it. I had an issue for a while with Comcast internet and their DNS servers going down.
