OK, here is the rundown on this issue. We have run accross this on computers. 2 laptops and desktop. The unit refuses to surf the web, we have tried IE of course, and on the XP machine firefox didnt work either. There are 2 98 machines doing the same thing, one of them being on a network, and you can browse the network perfectly, but cannot surf the web. All settings look perfect, we have torn down the network and let it rebuild fresh, everything we can think of. Checked all settings in internet options such as using proxy servers etc etc, and it still wont access the web. Is there a new virus out or something now? or something were missing, these are 3 completely separate machines, and 2 are win98 and 1 is XP. any suggestions would be appreciated.

Have you checked the HOSTS file on the affected PC's
for any strange entries or corruption?

have you tried pinging an IP address out on the web? maybe your DNS servers are on the fritz. see if you can ping address: 4.2.2.1

if you can, then try changing your DNS servers to that address. 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2 or 4.2.2.3. those are verizons and the ones i always use. cause they always work and are really easy to remember. :)
