ok, here we go. I have a Starhub cable subscription here in Singappre with a Cisco DPC 3925 router, which we all agree sucks. So I recently bought an Asus RT N56U Router, and bridged it to the modem (5ghz, channel 161). Internet speed immediately went up to my delight. One problem remained though- my office room, which is 3 walls away, still had very poor internet reception. So after hours and hours of research, I decided to go with a powerline adapter kit. Specifially the TP Link AV 500 Passthrough Wifi kit. So, one adapter has been connected to the router in the living room via ethernet cable, paired with the other adapter, which was then placed in the study. After this, to bring everything into one seamless network, I also pressed the WPS button on the router and then the adapter in the study, and now it's one seamless network. So far so good.
So here's where the problem starts.
In my study, I have amazing internet access now. I regularly get download speeds of about 50+mbps (I never used to get more than 10-12 mbps earlier)
so I'm happy with the study.
In the living room however, which has the Asus router, and I usually sit about 10 ft away from it, with my Apple TV also at the same distance, I frequently find the internet slow. Sometimes, when I use speed test to check my speed, while the download speeds are good (usually around 40+mbps), several times the upload speed times out because of "poor network connectivity". I even get a "Test timed out error" once in a while on speedtest. Also on Google Chrome I usually see a "Resolving Host" message at the bottom, before the page loads. Several times I get a "Connection Timed out" error as well and I need to reload. Apple TV is intermittent, whereas previous with only the router (and no powerline set up) it used to be spot on. My download speed also in the living room used to be about 80 Mbps with the Asus router, so I just can't understand what the powerline is doing which has pulled the speed down so much, and also affected the consistency of the transmission. Like I said though, the wi fi powerline in the study works brilliantly, it's at the living room end that I'm having issues.
Networking gurus, please help!! Thank you so much in advance.
Edit: Just tried opening a browser window and got a DNS Probe Started Message followed by DNS probe finished no internet.
