internet IE 5.5 and 6.0 status bar freeze

im running win2k and have tried both 5.5(sp2) and 6.0. the page loads up fine but the blue status bar on the lower right says done but there's like a 3 second delay before i actually can click on anything. netscape is working fine but im just having problems with IE? Any help would be appreciated.
