You forgot to list which wireless card you have installed in the machine. You also didn't say which model router you're using, and whether or not it's capable of doing wireless.

Ideally if your son plays games accross the internet/network it might be wise to have a wired connection. Might consider a wireless router with more ethernet ports. Some people sometimes add over the powerline ethernet adapters. Also might consider adding a small workgroup switch, to add more ports. Just getting an 8 port wireless router might be the easiest option as far as networking goes.

I have a 4 ethernet port router. But I need to go wireless. I don't know what you mean by wireless card, is there one pre-installed on my motherboard? I did not buy one. And my router is a Apple 3 gen Airport extreme, and yes it is capable of wireless. Can I ethernet for my computer and wireless for all the other Ipods and computers in the house?

No, you need to buy one. Or buy a USB wireless adapter. Only the top-tier mobos include wireless.

Yes. That's assuming the iPods are wireless-capable as well.

Ok, I plan on using ethernet to connect. and i will new a 25 foot ethernet cable. what will be the (if any) internet delay from the router to the computer its self?

 You're wondering if a 25-foot Ethernet cable will introduce some kind of delay to an Internet signal that traveled hundreds of miles, at least, to get to you? It won't add anything you could ever notice.

you can plug in and use wireless at the same time. the delay from the wired connection is probably lower than the wireless, and either is basically immeasurable.

Usually, assuming your router is set up with DHCP turned on and doesn't have some security feature to block new computers connecting to it, yes, you plug it in and it works.
