Internet Gateway Routers question

I was looking for a router. I currently have a linux box letting my other computers masq, but thought a router would offer performance increases and additional security, as well as simplicity.

I live in a dorm with a T1 ( I think ) connection. I was looking for routers, but all I saw was Cable/DSL and ISDN routers. I assume that my dorm connection with the RJ-45 jack could be used with any of the Cable/DSL class routers? Anyone know?

Thanks.

Sounds like your dorm is behind a router already. If there isnt a 'single ip address per ethernet' limit on your outlet all you will need is a hub to connect all your systems to the single ethernet. The router would provide firewall protection and hide you from others... if that is what you desire. Performance advantages would come from a switch but would be limited to your own machines talking to each other and not the outbound link.
