I've heard it over and over......To be more secure, we're going to have to be willing to give up some of our freedom.

Is there any doubt in your mind that the internet was used by the WTC Terrorists, and is being used by terrorists today in teh US, perhaps in a very similar capacity to what we do here in the AT forums?

What about terrorists that try to latently intimidate other people online in other Bulletin Boards or Forums? I've read in different posts in differnt forums where there seems to have been intimidating messages posted like "Wait until Sept 11....." Unfortunately, I didn't bookmark it, so I have no clue where it was from.

The very ideal behind the internet is to be able to be anonymous....we all know we're far more traceable than we think we are, even when using services (anonymizer.com for one), but really? What can be done. I myself am interested to see how the War On Terrorism will apply to internet freedom, and the govs ability to watch internet access from the US.

Any thoughts about what will happen? Any ideas....Maybe a gov't law to run Carnivore, or something like it on all ISPs?

My libertarian friends are opposed to giving up any freedom....but I myself, I can't decide how I feel. Realistically, I'm not a trouble causer, & even if the government had a tap on all ISP's, that wouldn't bother me. Watch me online all you want. You'd get bored.

I don't think the interent is anonymous.

I said the ideal behind it is. There's a difference.
"we all know we're far more traceable than we think we are, even when using services (anonymizer.com for one)...."
That's pretty plain english.

Maybe I should have said, no flames, just interested in what people think.
I really don't care what you think about my sig. I'm not in office and I don't have any control. I was & am so outraged by what was done to innocents, that's how I felt and feel.

What about the program Pretty Good Privacy (PGP)? The U.S. government has wanted the author to reveal the innards of the program so they are better able to read encrypted email. Terrorists using this program can have communications without fear of it being read. Of course your not supposed to export this program outside of the U.S.
