internet explorer staying loaded

Has anyone had Internet Explorer stay loaded in task manager after logging of of it (sometimes even 2 instances running) making the computer run really slowly until I close out of those tasks in task manager.

I'm running Windows XP Pro with an athlon 2100.

Not sure if it's the same problem, but after trying to close a java applet in IE, it sometimes disappears from the desktop but remains in the task bar and task manager. The only thing I can do is end the task in task manager, and then when it finally closes it crashes all of my other instances of IE... Very frustrating. Not really sure which JVM is being used(probably Sun's), but I guess it has something to do with it.

On a side note, does anyone notice that if some applet is being run in IE, all tool tips and context menus flicker? So annoying... Come to think of it, I'm 99% sure that I'm running Sun's JVM... I'm sure both of these issues would be a simple fix for Sun...
