Internet Explorer Slow Scrolling Question

BFG10K

Lifer
Originally I was using Internet Explorer version 5 that came with the Windows 98 SE CD and everything was working fine. Then I installed Microsoft Word 2000 and it updated Internet Explorer to a newer version of 5, but still version 5 (not 5.1 or 5.5).

Now I have a problem of slow scrolling whenever I am looking at pages that have lists of items (ie using the UL/OL tags or similar). I tried downloading the 5.1 SP1 patch and this didn't fix anything. It has nothing to do with the video card drivers or smooth scrolling.

My question is: does 5.5 fix this problem? I don't want to download this because it only seems to have the full download option which is 29 MB. I am not going to download this unless I'm sure it will fix the problem.

To get an idea of where I am having problems go to Tom's hardware front page. On that page each of the areas that have vertical bars (|) are listed items and scroll as slow as hell for me. The rest of the page is fine.

Is anybody else having these problems? Does IE 5.5 fix this issue?
