i know i'm gonna come across as a little "slow" with this one...

i have finally installed XP/Pro as i finally have a 'puter that'll run it right.

i'm having problems figuring out how to allow certain "redirects" and "install on demands" in Internet Explorer...for example, my online banking opens a new (doesn't appear to be java, but could be) window when i want to access my account, and some forums i use loads a java window for "new topic" or "reply". with 2K/SP4 and all fixes, this all goes smoothly, but with XP/SP2 and all fixes, all i get is "the page cannot be displayed" or, in the case of the java-based forum, i get a window with no features...for now, i'm back on 2K 'cause i can't figure it out. pop-up blocking on/off, NOT the problem.

can someone please help? TIA

if this's a stupid question, won't someone clue me in? honestly, i've been all up & down the "security" scale, and i can't get this right. i don't know where i'm going wrong.

anybody, please?

If this is your first experience with XP, MS no longer provides the Java Runtime Environment. You'll need to download this from java.com. That sounds like what's happening with your java problems. As for the new window for your banking, that could be something as simple as XP's pop-up blocker; look under the Tools menu in IE for your Pop-up blocker settings.
