Internet explorer password retrieval

Before anyone gets dismissive on the issue, take time to read the steps I've taken.
Had a laptop given to me in the hopes I can retrieve the password to a Netflix account (yup I already know this lady should be contacting Netflix, but you know how elder users can be).

Here is the situation:
It's an HP laptop with Windows 10 Home (wasn't upgraded from a previous OS from what I can tell), she uses Internet Explorer 11 to access the Netflix website, the login credentials are saved in IE as soon as you go to the website it automatically logins to her account. When she signed up for it she signed up with an email account she no longer has access to, the support person she spoke to said to just sign into her account and update the email address. But you can't change anything on the account without confirming the password.

So in an attempt to view her saved passwords I have tried IE passview, webbrowser passview, and IE Password Decrypter. None of them saw any logins being save in IE. So I checked in Credentials Manager in the control panel, currently shows there are no web passwords.

So for the heck of it on a whim, I thought maybe I can import her logins using Chrome or Firefox, no luck there. When I try to run the import tool in Firefox, it doesn't succeed at getting anything from IE (favorites, homepage).

So does anyone have any idea on another method to recover her Netflix password?

I didn't think it worked with recent versions of IE, but apparently it does. Snadboy's Revelation v2. A lot of anti-malware apps class it as malware, but it hasn't ever given me any grief. Point it at the password asterisks/spots and it'll translate the password for you.

Another program I have used to uncover passwords behind asterisks is Asterisk Key. http://www.lostpassword.com/asterisk.htm

I think even Cain & Able did this too.

Asterisk viewers aren't going to be any help to me, when going to the Netflix site it immediately logs into her account and doesn't even show the login fields even for a moment.
I came across an issue like this with Chrome before, where it had the credentials saved for a gmail account, but nothing could find where it was stored.

Chrome has a password list you can consult, as does Firefox.

IE auto-logging in is a problem though, because on one hand deleting the cookie that controls Netflix's auto-logon would probably fix the auto-login bit, the question is whether IE actually has the password saved.

I'd contact Netflix and explain the situation.

Side note - I think this isn't a likely-to-work suggestion, but what about if you go into Netflix's options and go to change your password, does it show asterisks/spots in the password field there? The reason why I don't think an asterisk viewer will work here is that I doubt that IE actually knows what the password is through that field (ie. the user has likely never used it before), Netflix probably just has some sample password that populates the field with asterisks/spots, but still, could work.

As I said before I already tried to import the passwords into firefox and chrome without any luck.
If i go into the change password page, the original password field is blank so no luck there.

No luck getting that IE Password utility to run, getting a runtime error. But I'm looking into it.

nirsoft.net has some password retrieval tools but personally I had not used them on IE or Win10 IE so not sure if they will work or not

You can try the password recovery bundle software from (Spam Deleted) If you've cleared the saved password in your browser, then none of password tools will work.

Anyone promoting a password recovery program on their first post makes me a bit leery, to be honest.

For what it's worth, it may not have been a saved password, but a 'remember me forever' cookie kind of thing. If you had wiped out cached/cookies/whatevers, it probably would have dumped your ability to auto-signin. That would also explain why importing settings didn't bring the login credentials over with it.

chances are IE does not know the password and logon, but instead you have a cookie that is allowing your to be logged in that expires in a month or so. Unfortunately the cookie credentials are encrypted.

There should be NO reason netflix can't reset your email address as long as you can supply the credit card used for payment.
