A couple of days ago something strange started happening with Internet Explorer (version 6 on Windows 2000).
Anytime I click on a link that it supposed to open a webpage in a new browser window (or if I right-click any link and choose "Open in New Window"), a new browser window will appear, but nothing at all will load inside of it (ie: no error message or anything... just a completely blank browser window).

Anyone know how I can fix this?

Thanks!

Oooh! Ooh! Oooh! I do! I do! I do!!!

Gimme a dollar and I'll tell you! (Just Kidding)

Take a look at this thread here! Note the original person requesting help. Read that thread, but to give you the head's up now, your problem is that Direct X has gotten corrupted somehow. Reinstalling Direct X will fix your problem. I recommend going to Windows Update, click the link for show installed Updates, and then check the box for Direct X 6.1 again and re-download/re-install it.

I don't know what i did on my system to cause it to get hosed, and you probably do not either, but I bet that this fixes it. let us know...

I had the same problem a week ago, it was caused by a downloaded program called [ Winhvance ], this program installed a defective oleaut32.dll file. I used an archiver program called Winace to extract a fresh copy of the file from my cabs to a temp dir, went into dos mode and did a copy from the temp dir to the windows\system dir which is the home of the oleaut32.dll file. There may be a simpler method to do this function, if anyone has one, please enlighten us. Good luck, ronach.

I just dealth with the problem for about a week or so until one day I was going through my hard drive and saw the Directx diag program. I ran it and it told me I had a registry problem that required i reinstall DirectX. I reinstalled it, and my problem was fixed. It may very well be the oleaut32.dll file that got corrupted. I can't say for certain either way. Reinstalling DirectX fixed it for me, though, so I was happy.

let us know what the final resolution is.
