Internet Explorer hijacked

Hi,
I seldom use IE(Firefox user), but there are certain sites that require IE to use, so just today I came across this site that required IE, and so I opened IE only to find that my start page has been changed to some eztravel website. No biggie I thought, I'll just change it back to google. Well, I did that, except even though the address bar says google.com, the website itself was still the eztravel one. Worse, any URL I type will just bring me back to the eztravel website despite the status bar saying downloading stuff from the entered URL.

I suspect some spy/adware has hijacked my IE since I only recently installed webroot spysweeper, and a recent scan removed some low priority threats. Any pointers as to how to regain IE back?

Thanks!

Yes, I read that thread before posting but couldn't find any relevant information. Perhaps I missed it, but I searched for "explorer" and "IE" and didn't come up with much. I've run an ad-aware and spy sweeper check and they both came up with nothing. I also have kaspersky antivirus and kerio firewall the first thing after I installed XP.

Run an update on Kaspersky's definitions, then configure it as shown in this movie clip and launch an exhaustive scan. Then take a snack break while it hammers out the scan :)

Also post a HJT log if you want, sounds interesting.

Check you IE proxy settings. The same thing happened to me a while ago. The proxy I was using one day did this to me.

You have spyware that is hijacking your IE. Download and run the following programms in safe mode: CWSHREDDER, SPYBOT SEARCH AND DESTROY, AD-AWARE, CRAP CLEANER, MICROSOFT ANTISPYWARE, SPY SWEEPER

If you cannot connect to the internet then run: WINSOCK FIX.

Thanks for all the help. Turns out Cawchy87 was correct. I simply had a proxy setting that I forgot to delete(some asian sites are really slow without an asian proxy). Anyway, I deleted the proxy server from the list and now it works.

Again, thanks for the replies.

This problem drove me crazy for like 3 days. I ran every spyware program known to man and was fully prepared to go to best buy and purchase some more spyware detection programs until I thought of this. Glad I could help.
