Internet Explorer Hangs temporarily.....

Having a problem with Internet Explorer hanging for about 20-30 seconds after loading a page, then releasing. During the hang time, not able to click on anything. This happens even when loading a saved html file from the local hard disk. From what I gather, this just started one day and the owner of the computer couldn't remember having made any software changes around that time.

Operating system is Win98SE and initial version of IE was 6.0. I uninstalled 6.0 (which took it back to 5.0) - same problem! Had a Microsoft CD of IE 5.5 which I installed - same problem!

Anybody experienced this? Thanks in advance for any help!

I do tech support for a cable modems and dial up and have many calls a month that are exactly this. Most of the time I can pry some info out of the users such as "My friend...who knows a lot about computers..." and I'm thinking, **sh!t** by now, and they finish, "...showed me how to delete my temporary internet files and folders..." Although I don't know for sure, it seems like most people get this after screwing with their internet cache setting, or manually deleting the files and folders in the Temporary Internet Files folder.

Please, if someone knows for sure, and has a way to fix this, please let us know...

Thanks,
