Internet Explorer frustration (with netflix)

Hello all. I consider myself an 'intermediate' computer enthusiast and most problems like this I can solve myself, but this one I've no clue.

I'm an avid user of netflix watch instantly and up until yesterday have had 0 problems with it. I have an HTPC that I rebuilt (completely rebuilt two days ago) with Win XP home - so brand new Win XP/IE7 installation. It is connected to my router (WRT54G) via ethernet and then out to the tubes via ATT DSL (6 Mbps). Installed IE7, updated it, then went to Netflix Watch Instantly. I can usually watch 5-10 minutes of a show and then IE7 stops buffering the video and netflix tells me my 'internet' has stopped. If I click "Back to Browsing" it hangs just as if I'm not connected. HOWEVER, firefox on the same machine is connected and I can even get to netflix without issue with firefox (all at the same time that IE7 'stops' it's connection with netflix); and if I close IE7 and start it again, I can go right back to netflix immediately.

So, I then tried netflix on my EEE laptop running WinXP home and IE7, but wireless. Works perfectly.

So, I'm assuming it's something wrong with my HTPCs IE installation, and not my router, ATT, or netflix given that my laptop is able to connect and 'watch instantly' without a hitch at nearly the same time.

I've had the above problem several times over the last 24 hours, after rebooting, after reinstalling IE7 or installing IE8, after clearing 'temporary internet files', and even with just using IEtab in firefox (yes, as a long stretch).

I'm really very confused about this issue and am hoping that anyone reading this might have some ideas on what is going on.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

It is a Netflix affliction. N/F is notorious for "throttling." IOW, when they see too fast a turn arounbd on rentals, they simply do things like drops or making contact difficult for "heavy duty" users. Sort of an unprovable "cap" on slowing down transactions.

HOLY COW!
Lurk much?

I never have a problem with losing the connection or movies stopping. But I do have a problem with speed. Often when nothing is going wrong it will freeze and say it needs to reduce the quality. I am sure this is more their problem than mine. I suspect that when their servers get hit hard they reduce the bandwidth to all customers at once.

I'm like you, shortylickens, I've had very little issue with netflix other than some moderate slowing here and there. Nothing like this where it STOPS and actually prevents IE from accessing any websites!

Just an update: Installed WinXP Home on another partition on same comp => same problem. Assuming it's a hardware issue now. I plan on swapping out some ethernet adapters to see if I can resolve this issue.

Also, ran several movies through my winxp home laptop WITHOUT issue, so assuming it's not a netflix, isp, modem, or router issue. Frustrating.

Again, if anyone has encountered this problem or have any suggestions, please feel free to post!
