Ok i have XP, i was trying to find the temp. internet files folder. yesterday i played around with some of the settings in C:\Documents and Settings or C:\Documents and Settings\my folder one of those folders
I clicked hidden on the properties tab.
It did some things not really sure.
I also adjusted some of the settinge for privacy ans secruity in IE 6 and played with the advanced settings in Internet props.

Well i have set everything to normal defaults still not working.
My OE 6 will not load and i can not download *anything* at all I have tried several websites.

I always get a cannot open internet site etc,.....
well i have no proplem surfing or anything like that.

I reinstalled xp on top of XP today did not format!
In hopes that it would put a missing file back if one was lost. Nothing has changed all my settings are the same.
Any ideas?

i also tried system restore after reinstalled but it doesnt go back far enuff.

I had this problem about a week ago.I downloaded the softwear from the maker of the harddrive
and checked it then wrote zeros to the drive. After this I reinstalled the XP along with office and all is fine.

Sorry, but it doesn't sound like you know just what you did, so how do you know that you "have set everything to normal defaults"? It's pretty hard to tell you how to get back home if we don't know what you did to get here in the first place. Next time you need to do some reading on these features BEFORE you change the settings. Experimentation is a good way to learn about an OS, but you have to keep track of what you're doing and how the OS behaves in response at each step of the process. Otherwise, you farkle the system, and you still don't learn anything.

Everyone here has done this at one time or another (though some may not admit it). The thing is to learn to proceed scientifically instead of haphazardly.

BTW, if you're able to actually give us some real detail about the exact settings you've changed, and on what files you may have altered attributes-wise, maybe someone will be able to help you find your way out of this.

BTW, if it weren't off-topic I'd tell you about the time a buddy and I decided to "tune" the first dual overhead cam engine we had ever seen. When we reinstalled the cams improperly (profiles out of sync) and cranked her up we blew the valve adjustment shims out of their buckets right through the aluminum heads. Made a coupla interesting holes in the garage wall, too. At least your mistake isn't going to be that expensive! :D
