Internet Explorer Add-Ons

I am running Vista Home Premium on an HP laptop . The Internet explorer became noticeably slower . No antivirus or spyware . The Vista Help suggests runing it without add-ons ( in Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - Internet Explorer (No Add-ons ). Indeed after doing this , it ran faster . By clicking Manage Add-ons under Tools in the IE window , I get a window with 4 display options and a whole list of stuff . How can I know what are just the essential things ? Some say Microsoft .. , which I would assume is necessary ? Some say ( not verified) Microsoft .. Is this someting wrong ? Plus there are other non-microsoft as well . Help appreciated . Thanks .
