I think it's good Msoft is getting back into the game, but I also feel it's too little too late. If they can keep IE patched quicker, they could give FF a run for it's money, but Opera is way beyond both browsers IMO.

In what regard? Aside from a lack of AdBlock (Disable the flash plug-in or use proxomitron  ), I don't see what else is missing.

Schadenfroh:

The Opera 9 Beta has been out for a while now ;)

You know, looking at the screenshots, it looks a lot like Opera

I'm going to do some side-by-sides.

FF doesn't do a 10th of what Opera does, and FF doesn't do adblock either. I'm talking straight out of the box. FF has jack, you need plugins and plugins and gobs of plugins to come close to Opera out of the box, which doesn't take any more memory nor a bigger install file.

I look forward to IE 7, being an IE user myself, and because of the under-the-hood changes and new security features, which will ease my pain at work, hopefully.

Is there any easy way to make windows transparent on just the outside like in Vista? I can make my entire window transparent, but not just the toolbar :(

Sorry, read that backwards. Thought you said FF was better than Opera :p

Personally that's what I like about FF, you only install the features you're going to use. I really like the way that you can get lots of plugins that could suit your needs, without having to have all the stuff you don't need.

Yeah but it doesn't inhibit you in ANY way to have all those features waiting to be used. Almost every feature Opera has that I find, I tend to use. The only one I don't use is voice-browsing.

My favorite feature is the ability to restrict scripts so new windows always have the address bar. And that scripts are launched in the same domain.

Just wondering, anybody know if these and other features would be configurable. I want to be able to always show all the default toolbars I normally have open and have a constant window size and position. I would also like to be able to disable some scripting commands entirely.

Anybody have a pre-release beta or know if anything like this would be possible?

Of course, they were all together for a security meet a while back, since all 3 browsers have one vulnerability still that they are working on.

If you switch just two toolbars in their screenshots, IE7 looks nearly the same as my Opera. Except Opera has a lot more functions tucked away in the side panel that IE7 does not have.

Quick search bar, tabbed browsing, pop-up blocker, RSS feeds, sounds a lot like FF to me.

Dude, all those things were in Opera years before FF hit the scene. FF only been around a year, Opera been around 10 years. FF is not the best thing since sliced bread, try other browsers sometime. FF isn't that great.

I agree with this. BTW, I think it's funny how this turned into an Opera thread.

I recently found out that the ctrl-enter URL shortcut for IE/FF is already in Opera, but it's even simpler... just type the name and hit enter. It actually enters www & .com for you, without doing a google (or whatever) search. You just have to go into Tools --> Preferences --> Advanced --> Network --> Server Name Completion and disable the "look for local network machine" option for this to work. Just like the commonly-missed ctrl-enter feature in the other browsers.
