IE11 was working perfectly fine up until today. Here's the error that I get when I try to open IE11. I'm running Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit.

I've done all of the standard troubleshooting steps that I can think of, including:
1) Uninstalling and re-installing IE11 via "add and remove features from Windows"
2) Reset IE11 settings
3) Un-installed recent Windows updates
4) Did a system restore in Windows to 1 week ago
5) Did a full recovery from a backup image made 1 week ago

I thought that #5 would finally fix the problem, but alas, when I rebooted after restoring the recovery image, I got the same error again.

Given that the problem persists even after restoring a full image backup made a week ago, does anyone know what's going on, or how to fix this issue of IE11 crashing on launch?

If you create another Windows user and try IE while logged in as that user, do you get the same problem?

What security software are you using?

I will try another account in a bit.

Just noticed that the exact same issue is now also happening on my laptop! Laptop is also running Windows 8.1 64 bit. This is the strangest problem since IE11 worked perfectly fine up until today.

Using NIS 2014 and Malwarebytes on both laptop/desktop.

Run liveupdate def of Symantec Endpoint or NIS 2014 if installed and check if IE11 works

hi, this issue is been reported by other user too. if you have NIS or Symantec Endpoint installed then it due to that.
IPSEng32.dll is causing IE11 crash.

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH228168

Bingo! -ipseng32.dll- I didn't read tech2281....... but it did happen to me yesterday and read it has to do with Norton power eraser. remove and reinstall, take the Norton prescribed route, fast and painless.
