internet doesn't work, but still connected?

I just got a new harddrive and installed windows xp pro on it. The compouter is a 2 year old dell. Everything is working good except it when i dial up to the internet, it the internet work for like 15 mins then stops working. the weird thing is that its still connected through the phone line. any sugestions?

I get this alot using different versions of my modem's driver. The one that comes with 2k/XP for my modem hangs like that alot, switching to the driver provided by the manufactuer fixes it.
