Every 5 minutes optimum online cuts out. When it cuts out some of the lights on the front that say recieve, send, online and activity go out. Then it slowly fills up the lights when it's unplugged then plugged in again. This just started happening today? Would cablevision send me a new surfboard modem if they're is definatly a problem with this one? Thanks.

hmm, problem can be from anything, but do you have router there? CableVision? Hahaha, I used to use their service when I was in Indonesia.. I think just ask their technical team to just come to your house and fix it..

Have you tried calling them? My guess would be 1) isolated troubles in your area 2) bad signal levels 3) bad modem

It comes back every once in a while. I always assumed this was just a known problem with high speed internet.

In this case it is bad to assume. :) It should not happen.

Either the levels are off or your modem is slowly dying. Either case you need to contact your cable Company. If it's the levels they will come out and adjust them for you if your modem is malfunctioning they will replace it (if it a leased modem). They could be out in your area balancing levels also but that usually doesn't take more than a few hours to do so if it hasn't cleared up within 24 hours you should call.

is your power cable messed up (not plugged in all the way, or just touching the contacts barely to turn the thing on) because if the power goes out on it for just a bit, it will turn all black and then slowly turn back on, which makes it seem like a power issue to me. it could also be what skitzer said inwhich the input levels to your modem r dying, maybe from more people in your neighborhood getting the same isp as you, and clogging up the line. just a guess.
