Internet cuts in and out

For some reason, my internet cuts in and out really fast every few minutes or so. Trying to figure out what might be causing the problem.

I am connected through a linksys G router(WRT54GS) with speedbooster to a modem that also handles VOIP(Optimum Voice).

Aim gets disconnected/reconnects almost instantly every so often, maybe 5-10 minutes. IE also gets affected, but usually just needs a refresh. Sometimes downloads stop, other times, they keep going.

No idea what might be the problem. I am fairly certain that another computer hooked up directly to the router also has the same problem.
 
try bypassing the router and plugging directly into the cable modem. this will tell you if the problem is with the router or the cable modem / line.
