This problem just arose out of the blue. I currently have a Linksys WRT54S router with I have had for the past few years and never really had a problem with it. It now seems that for whatever reason, my wired connection to my desktop keeps dropping. The only way i can fix it is rebooting my computer where it will work all night, then i go to work, come home, and i lose connection again. I'm running a dual boot, but i primarily use XP SP2.

My laptop is working fine wirelessly at the same time that my wired desktop is not working.

I cannot figure out what it can be, i cannot even access the router settings from the computer once i lose connection, nor can i reset my lan connection from the control panel.

Any ideas?
 
Did it, doesnt work. I dont think its a router problem. I think its a computer problem, because the wireless works perfectly fine. I also believe my tivos connections are fine too. Any ideas?
 
ensure that under your NIC properties "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is unchecked.
 
I just started to have this problem, it might be the isp... in any case, the fix is fairly simple. just open op your router gui, 192.168.1.1 for your linksys one, then simply select the status button, then "release DHCP"

(this just fixes it temporarily, but it's better then restarting. anyways, since i also just startedh having this exact same problem, i think this is an isp at fault. you have comcast?)

I used to have a wcg200 (a linksys wireless router gateway that has the cable modem builtin) that had a very similar problem but in reverse. The wireless would drop for no reason. In my case, the problem was that the wireless part of the router was somehow dieing. After a while, when the wireless dropped, the router would reboot on its own and I would reset connection without warning. When I disabled the wireless, I could use the router part just fine without the reboots. Don't know if this helps, but if you can switch yours into being exclusively an AP, maybe this might give you some ideas.
