Internet Connection

Ok I have a problem, I am on a lan connection at college. And like every hr or so my connection will stop responding, so the only way to fix it is to restart my computer. The problem is, whenever my internet connection stops responding, My taskbar stops responding too, like I have to taskmanager and end it, then restart my computer. Anyone got any ideas? Oh yea I am running windows xp with all the updates too.

I would try to see if there were any newer drivers for your components. Especially the networking card.

EDIT: might want to give system specs.
