Internet Connection

I recently built a new computer and installed Windows XP Pro (SP2). I tried a few different things to get my new computer to show up on the LAN so I can transfer files.

Now when I look in the Network Connections, there's one called "Internet connection". None of my other computers have it and I want to conenct to the internet via my router (Linksys) and the wireless card in my computer, not be sharing some other connection. I'm worried that I turned on Internet sharing and the "Internet Connection" should not be there. I disabled it and it isn't in the list anymore, and my connection seems to be fine. Just wondering about it.

Any advice?

I'm having some issues with sharing between the devices plugged into the Linksys router and devices that connect wirelessly, but I flashed the router with the older satori firmware to get WDS (wanted to connect Xbox via WDS/Airport Express and stream itunes to my stereo). Since everything else was working, I didn't want to mess with it. I may have some time in the next month and I'll flash the router with alchemy or one of the other 3rd party firmwares and see if I can still get it to work.

I think I accidently created a "shared" internet connection when trying to get the shared folders to show up on my new computer (so I can copy over my music and pictures). Disabling the connection seemed to work. Now I just need to read through the other links you gave me to figure out the rest of the network items.

thanks,

Michael
