Hi, i recently moved to share a house with a bunch of guys, and they have wireless access for internet. So they added my wireless card's MAC address to the router, which had firewall..

So now I have a connection to the internet on the laptop, and I want to furthur share that connection with my 3 desktop computers. I have the laptop running xp/2000 adv. server right now and sharing the internet connection to my private lan, but the clients on the private lan are having problems with loading certain websites, and having problems logging onto Steam to play CS.

diagram

internet -> roommates router(firewall enabled) -> my laptop -> sharing the wireless connection with my private lan via wired Ethernet. all of my own LAN has firewall disabled.

is there something wrong with this?

the only reason why i have my own lan is because I didn't want to have wireless PCI cards for the desktops to log onto roommates's router and have my own private network... please help me.

oh i forgot to mention that my private lan computers can't get access to Windows Update, or any Microsoft domains, and Media Player 10 can't get access to unlock the WMVHD stuff

never mind, windows 2000 advanced server's internet connection sharing is so much better than XP's....running fine with 2000

If you're connected to a router then you may be better off using XPs network bridge capability, provided you can get your wireless card to function properly as part of the bridge. (A lot of times they like to use "automatic private ip" instead of using DHCP) Of course if ICS works for you why change it?
