Ok. I sold my desktop monday. I left the wireless router and modem in the computer room they were running fine. I was using the wireless connection for my laptop and xbox 360 monday and tuesday night.

Well....I wanted a quicker connection with the 360 so I decided to unplug the router and modem from the computer room and connect to the 360 via lan line. All i did is move the router and modem and plug the cat 5 cable from router port 1 into the xbox.

The xbox couldn't find a internet connection. The laptop would find the router but it wouldn't connect to the internet.

So I unhooked the router all together and just plugged the modem directly into the xbox. It found an ip address but couldn't find a DNS address. Same thing happened when I plugged it directly into the laptop.

Any thoughts of why this got jacked up?

any help is much appreciated,

Jesse

Need some information.
Internet connection type? ie, cable,dsl
Router Model#
Modem Model#

The IP Address your 360 is picking up.

If you are using a cable modem, you will need to power cycle the cable modem anytime you connect a new device to it. Proper way to power up your system when you move it is as follow.
Modem->Router->PC.

Make sure you give each device time to sync up properly so it has all the necessary information for the following device. You may need to wait a few minutes before connecting and powering each device.
