Internet Connection Monitor for Ubuntu?

Is there any small freeware program that will give me a status bar type indication when my Internet connection is dead? The built in System Monitor isn't very good for that.

Thanks,

Thanks,

ehhh you can check for a desklet that could monitor it. im pretty sure desklets are under the add/remove programs control panel and a little googling should get you working on that.

theres also conky, which is probably more like annoying to set up if you arent into text configs and such, but it allows monitoring of many system stats, so i wouldnt be surprised if it could do what you want.

do you really time out often enough to need this though?
