internet connection loss (possible virus?)

We have a computer that loses its internet connection about 10-15 seconds after either doing a ipconfig /renew or a restarting of its ethernet interface. No antivirus software was installed on the pc, so it leads me to believe that is the problem. Does anyone know of a virus that fits these symptoms?

OS is Windows XP.
