Internet Connection Keeps Dropping

I had no problems with my internet with this computer. I transferred the computer to a new case and reformatted the hard drive and installed XP. I can connect to the internet as before but for only a short while and then I loose the connection. Sometimes XP can renew the address and sometimes I just have to reboot to get internet again, but I still keep getting dropped.

I have four other existing computers that are running fine. I can also hook up my laptop to the same port I am having a problem with and it works fine so the problem is specific to this new computer setup with XP.

It is hooked up directly to my Lynksys router which has been updated.

Why do I keep losing the connection?

Try a different net cable. I had that same problem and it turned out to be the net cable.

Or faulty install... it can happen...

if you have a cable tester, check the ends. Check that the cable is securely scoketed in the port. Try the same cable on another PC and see what happens... check your NIC config..
