ok, i am running windows 2000 on my laptop. i have several internet connections. i have a wireless network card that i use to connect to my family's dsl line. also, i have a dial up connection configured that i use on rare occasions for work. the problem is that when i type in an address for a website or something, a screen comes up that says its connecting to my dial up connection. i have to press cancel, then it goes to the website. its really annoying. i have to deal with this every time. is there a way i can set my LAN connnection as the default or something? Or to tell windows to stop using the dial up connection without getting rid of it?

thanks for any help.

Assuming you're using Internet Explorer, click Tools > Internet Options and go to the Connections tab. You can opt for "never dial" or "dial whenever a network connection is not present." Is that any help? 🙂

actually you assumed wrong. i use firefox. i looked in the settings and couldnt find anything there. thanks though.

It doesn't matter that you use Firefox. The Windows dialer is still controlled from inside IE. So you have to go into IE and make the change anyways.

wow. thanks, i never would have figured that out. i guess its a good thing i still have IE. it took me a while to find it on my computer!
