Internet Connection Dropping!

I'm not sure if anyone has experienced something like this before but I am really pulling my hair out. The problem only started a couple of days ago and I cannot figure out how to solve it. First, let me describe my network arrangement.

Videotron Cable service (10mbit) comes into an old Linux box running ClarkConnect. Linux box then has an additional two NIC, one being connected to a SMC wireless router and the other to a Linksys router. My machine I am using torrents on is behind the Linksys router. My network and all configured fine and dandy, no problems there.

Now recently, in the last couple of days, I have encountered a strange problem. With torrents running (in heavy use), my Internet connection just drops. Now, I know it is common for routers to almost literally explode with heavy torrent traffic and that does occur for me from time to time, but this is different. That would simply require me to unplug and replug my router back in and give it a moment and things would be OK. This last couple of days, none of that is required. My Internet connection coming from the cable modem is actually dropping and I have to go and unplug/replug the cable modem to get an Internet signal back. My home network is still fully functional at that point but my Internet connection drops, sometimes minutes after getting on torrents.

This is strange behaviour I haven't experieced before. Anybody have any idea what could be causing this? My ISP did recently upgrade (or so they say) the service from 6.5 to 10mbit and I am getting crazy high speeds on my torrents when I start them up. Could it be possible that it is passing too much bandwidth through the modem? My ISP does not block filesharing (it is legal in my country) and they do not block the ports I am using. I actually tried changing my torrent port for the hell of it but it didn't help. This problem has only started in the last couple of days - I normally do 200 GB down / 150 GB up a month without problems. Could it be that the torrents I am using are literally sucking all the bandwidth out of the modem so it cannot communicate with the ISP anymore? Can't see that likely being possible... at most last I checked I was downloading at 500-600 kb/s?

Also, when this happens, I checked my CC box and saw that the signal to the modem gets lost. It takes a second for the CC box to ackwowledge, so I just clicked to renew the DNS servers and see that my ISP connection gets lost. It no longer resolves an IP. After power cycling the modem, the link comes back up instantly with the same IP.

Somebody please help! Should I call my ISP?
