Internet Connection cutting (Win2k)

I think my internet connection is cutting out when I am away from my computer. I don't believe it's my network cable or my actual internet connection. It seems to happen when I am away from my computer, not necessariliy away long enough for power settings to take effect either. I have my power settings so there is no stopping of the hard drives or system standby. Does anyone know what could be causing this? The reason I know that the internet connection is being cut is because my AIM disconnects. The weird thing is that ICQ doesn't disconnect although ICQ is often slower to realize that there is no internet connection from my experience. Anyone have any suggestions on what could be doing this?

Thanks in advance...

i thought it might be the power settings in the BIOS but im not sure what settings i would have to change. the suspend mode was set to S3. i dont even know what that means. i set it to S1 for now and i shall see what happens...

ok im in my living room now on my laptop and i can see that my other screen name is signed offline. so changing the BIOS suspend settings didnt make a difference. any ideas?
