Internet Connection cuts out after lease expires

So for whatever reason recent my router is only getting a 24 hour lease for the connection then it cuts out, and waits for me to renew it. I recall when I first install the router I had a 7 day lease, and it seems to me that most of the time, it seemed like it went more than 7 days and just did it automatically.

Now it's been 2 days in a row and the internet has gone down. Sure enough I go to the settings, and it says 0 seconds on when the Lease Expires. I hit release, then I hit renew and it gets a new IP address and works til it cuts out again, which appears to be 24 hours.

So to my question.....

Why the hell won't it do this automatically and is there anyway I can make it do it so I don't have to do this every 24 hours or 7 days or however long the lease is????

Thanks

edit... To be more specific it's a Netgear 54mb wireless router, model WGR614 v5

Your router should be automatically trying to renew the lease before it expires. Assuming that the router is functioning properly, your ISP probably has something set on their end that the IP address lease expires after 24 hours and cannot be automatically renewed. Some ISPs do things like this to try to prevent people from running servers or leaving their connection active 24/7.
