Has anyone ever installed a internet capable sprinkler controller?

One of my controllers is working intermittently and I am thinking about replacing both of them since they are 10+ years old. I was looking at something I could have better control over and some of the new Internet capable controllers look interesting. It would be nice to more fine tune my watering through my phone or computer.

These are some of the ones that I have looked at.

I'd be more interested in the automation aspects...providing the right amount of water without wasting. But that just seems impossible given all the variables. But anything is better than a "dumb" controller I suppose. We need the Nest of sprinkler controllers....

I did see that one unit has the ability to monitor flow rates. This would be great since keeping track of broken sprinklers can be tough. I mean, who checks the state of their sprinklers regularly?

I xeroscaped most of the yard and just don't use sprinklers anymore.

Even used to have a well for it, but don't have to eve run the pump anymore.

The wife actually did most of it, but I came out for the heavy work, there is nylon mesh under the chips and requires no watering and she just enjoys going in the yard and weeding the few that manage to pop threw occasionally on the weekends.

There is a bird of paradise out there in the middle near an even bigger palm too, the wife some found a rare lily she had planted out there blooming a few days ago.

Florida has water problems?

Not having to mow the front yard, getting compliments over it. and not paying for the electricity to run a sprinkler system is a good thing.

The trim has been painted since that pic btw, some things had been recently replaced.

Opensprinkler is pretty good, and cheaper too. You can get the pi version with a pi for around $100. The "normal" adrino-based version is about $150. These are z-wave enabled, so you can use them with any z-wave controller (e.g. Vera), but you don't have to. They have a decent phone app and you can login via the device web page.
