Internet Cafes

I'm interested in them from a start up point of view. Looking for some ancedotal advice.
Anyone.... Buehler?:disgust: < sorry gratuitous FBDO reference.....

They are cheap.. it's $1/30 min (CDN) here in Vancouver. Pros, have nice monitors. LCD not required, but make them 19". Throw in a drink as a special deal during low hours, you'll get more visitors. Try a CLUB card... for discounts. Don't log keystrokes. Make sure all comps have speakers/headphones. .... more girls would be good.. 😉

Oh, orangize CS/whateverthehellyouplaythesedays tournaments for some cash or maybe free time.

I like this.... not logging keystrokes, perhaps make privacy a marketing point.

GOod luck...I have no experience 🙂

yes, definitely search the archives here.

Internet Cafes won't work here. Americans want to surf in private...and at home.

They are great in Europe tho! And they are a great place to meet attractive, computer-savvy women too 😀

1. don't have bad computers and/or lcds and try to run a cs tourney
2. don't charge $5/hr or more like places here in Florida
3. make older people feel private and comfortable, not like they're in some sort of prepubescent sweat shop

i don't see the point. unless its real cheap and i just totally need instant access, won't bother. touching public computers = gross to boot

wifi hotspot at a cafe's and basically everywhere would be very nice though.

Make sure you don't have a crap load of a$$hole cs players yelling all over the freakin place about the god damn bomb. Freakin cafes by me blow.

They work great at universities. Students love games and are very competitive, so beating the crap out of your friends while taunting them is always fun. The cafes around here also serve speciality drinks (ie, bubble tea), so there's another selling point. Around here, it's $3 per hour, plus a $10 one-time charge for an access card (required).

Uhm . . . well, i don't run a PC cafe, but this is something pretty generic.

Don't listen to idiots telling you how much to charge. That really depends on the neighborhood you're trying to set up at.

And who are you aiming for with this market audience? Gamers? Or people who are more lax about the internet habits; e.g. people who want to check email while having a light snack, etc.; how you go about it really depends on who you're aiming for -

:gamers - you're going to want more of an isolated environment, with headphones and plenty of games for them to play with, obviously

:casual surfers - make the environment like a regualr cafe, and give them something to do - like a list of website recommendations, same pl movies that are online exclusive, etc.

Whatever you do, you have to aggressively market these things. Expect to spend a lot of money doing that.

Don't forget the "cafe" part of the internet cafe if you're going to cater to the "normal" crowd.

Most small businesses die out because they expect to succeed much too early. Expect your store of lose money for at least four months until you get "brand recognition" and some regulars.

That's all I can think of at the top my head.

9800Pro's are minimum for today's computers. If you don't mind, there are people 21+ that would like to view "shady" material, so you must set-up private rooms that let them surf in private. Also start thinking about ..... blah.... i'm too tired.
