Internet Browser Keeps Crashing

I use mostly firefox, but I've tried Safari and IE too. On my laptop, no matter which browser I'm using, it'll often randomly crash. It gives a microsoft error report that says <internet browser> has encountered a problem and needs to close. The only option is the "close" button. The message stays on top of all the browser windows, but if i drag it to the side, I can continue browsing normally. Anyone know what the problem might be?
 
Yeah, time for a system scan. Both virus/spyware scans. It is always a good idea to keep a backup of your important files for a multitude of reasons though. If you do end up doing the windows 3-step (fdisk, format, reload) then you should be covered. It sounds like you may just have to end up doing that. A clean install is always great to have.
