Internet access in Europe?

Hi there,
my roommate will be travelling to Europe in a couple weeks. Right now he uses Verizon Broadband Access wireless internet, so he's essentially connected at all times.

He's looking for something similar in Europe ... do any of you know of something similar, or that he could purchase for short-term use while there?

Any suggestions you have are appreciated!
