Done a search on standby, and this - which is my same problem, came up. It was never resolved.

"I'm connected to the internet via a cable modem to the NIC that is installed on the mobo. A few days ago, this problem started where the internet stops working after coming off standby. The connection still exists, but the computer is not receiving any data. I have no idea how this started. I tried running ipconfig /release and then ipconfig / renew, but that doesn't work until I restart my computer. In addition, after I run ipconfig /release the IP address isn't showing up as zeros. Any ideas what the problem could be?" (posted 3-22-03)

Any ideas? It seems that after a short period in standby, the web will come back up. If it is longer - like overnight - forget it. You have to reboot.

Thanks

It must take the NIC card a while before it re-establishes a connection to the modem. This is why I prefer to use a NIC that's not embedded into my motherboard. See if installing a PCI NIC will do the trick.

could be crappy drivers too, that don't take standy well. Cisco Wireless CCX certified cards have to be able to work after standby and hibernate or they fail the cert process. Seen a few struggle with this before.

Please forgive me for being dumb - but is the NIC card the same as the ethernet card?

Thanks

Followup:
I put in a Linksys card that I had in my old machine. Maybe this will help.

Thanks for all the help.

Oh, well ...no change. If it goes into standby overnight - it has to be re-booted. It must be somewhere in the OS setup or memory (leakage) as both the router and nic card show working correctly.

My sys is Athlon XP 1.5 Ghz w/ 512 ram + XP Pro - if anyone has a thought about this. I am getting ready to set it all up on a dual boot with a Linux distro along with teh XP Pro. That may end up being the fix.
