International calling: long distance packages

Hi!

I am wondering what long distance package to get so that I can call Canada on a frequent basis. I have looked into Sprint and it seems to be quite good, but are there others that I should look into? I did a search but didn't come up with much and was wondering what people here use, if anything! 🙂

Thanks!

I only know of deals when calling from the USA.

AT&T is offering $19.95 a month UNLIMITED long distance provided both are AT&T customers but this may be for US only calls 🙁

The best deal for simple long distance from the USA is BigZoo.com or OneSuite.com for everything you get, they can't be beat.

Okay, just made some calls baby.

Sprint offers nickle nights to Canada and 10cents during the days. Their montly flat rate is $6.95. Free calling cards with 10cents per minute which we will hardly, if ever, use. It really seems to be the best as we don' t have to use a set amount of minutes and we are free to do what we please, provided it is after 7pm.

Oh yeah. 😛

Thanks RossMAN for the link and gift certificate!

bigzoo.com worked extremely well...you get a lot of minutes for a very low price! :Q
It is amazing how many long distance companies that are out there with all sorts of scams and hidden fees. Bigzoo.com does not and their site is great...I (and Skoorb) can track all my calls! 😀

I'm curious can Canadians dial and access US 1-877 toll free phone numbers without incurring extra fees?

If so, that would be perfect for you two!

Otherwise Skoorbite can still call you when you return to Canada, it's just 4.4 cents per minute, all the calls can be tracked, it's very easy, cheap and you don't have to switch your long distance carrier?

How much of the original $10 I sent you is left?

Well we've used $7 of the $10 that Rossman set up for us. We had asked for Sprint to hook up but today (about a week later) it was still not done so Mrs. Skoorb had been trying bigzoo. Today I called sprint and told them not to bother. Why would we? Unlike Sprint bigzoo doesn't charge $7/month, and its minutes are 4.5 cents vs. 5 cents for sprint after 7 - but before 7 pm who knows what sprint is...at least a dime/minute, and bigzoo is the same price regardless. Plus I can use bigzoo on other phones.

So net result is:
- save $7/month
- don't have to wait until after 7 to get the good rate

Of the 7 calls we've made one we got the busy signal, but after a couple min that went off. Unfortunately there is no local number for Huntsville, AL so that is why we call the more frequently used toll free number but it hasn't proven to be a problem.

I didn't even have to lean on mrs. skoorb to use this instead of the slightly quicker/easier to use Sprint.

I'm glad you two are making good use of the $10 I sent you.

Just remember if the BigZoo toll free access number is busy, hang up and press redial. You'll get through after a few tries.

They really do kick ass over the major long distance carriers.

Like Skoorb said, we made the switch! I have only had to redial once with bigzoo and the pin number allows you to make long distance calls from anywhere: not just your own phone. No calling cards are necessary, just gotta remember 4 little whittle numbers. I think Skoorb might be able to manage that...I gotta teach him his home phone number first! 😛

Thanks again RossMAN! Your advice was great. We can call Canada at any time during the day and the price does not go up! They are completely accurate with the minutes too....😀

Just wanted to say thank you very much Skoorb & Mrs. Skoorb for the porsche. It wasn't necessary but greatly appreciated.

About my DVD collection I'm actually considering selling about 2/3 of my collection (about 200 DVDs) on here, DVDTalk.com, eBay and locally to friends. I'll never watch 99% of those movies and I'd rather have the $ than have it occupy space in my bedroom.

So after you're done with the $10 I sent you, how much are you going to recharge your BigZoo PIN for?

I imagine that I'll recharge it for $20. I'm a big spender 🙂 it says something about referrals and that I have none setup; if you know how to do it PM me and you can get whatever small cut they give of my monies if that is how it works...

I've found that $20 per recharge is perfect because it's not so small that you'll be recharging every other week neither is it half of $100.

I'm not sure if I can refer you since you're already technically a BigZoo customer and I receive more free minutes I don't need that because I'm trying to get rid of minutes! Must call the relatives in Australia more often and talk longer.
