Hi, I'm a junior in IB, i was just wondering if anyone has been in IB, and if it was worth all the homework, tests, and of course, the IB exams.

Thanks!

Tell your story, etc, etc. =]

i was, but i moved states during my senior year due to my dad's job, and never finished the IB degree :( the nearest IB school was over an hour away at my new state without any transportation there.... (from freshman to junior it was also an hour away but it was an magnet school so they bussed me)

I was in IB. I didn't find it all that special, but at our school it was very tacked on. A 30+ was considered a "good" score (compared to say 40+ at a real IB school). It was nice getting free units for college, but those don't actually do anything (they didn't place me out of any classes that AP didn't place me out of already). Basically, it did almost nothing for me.

I had friends in it. Never really seemed like they got any more out of it as far as college went than I did with your regular AP/Honors classes.

Then again I'm pretty bitter against all those kinds classes ever since I didn't get into my top two colleges.

In my district we had a choice of two HS's. One was AP, one was IB, was admitted to the IB program but decided to go AP since it is more recognized in US and less restrictive.

Hahah. I forgot about this thread and haven't updated yet. Yeah, IB was kind useless for college, if you had AP scores. Not to mention, you have to have taken HL courses. Oh wells, memories were fantastic as well as the small-knit community it formed over two years.

I had several friends in IB. They are now seniors in college. They said it wasn't really worth it and they're no better off than the other smart kids at my high school.

IB isn't any harder than taking a full load of AP classes. Also, IB focuses more on history, writing, etc. If you want to go math/science route, you're better off taking all of the AP classes for biology, chem, physics, math, computer science, etc.

That being said, I went to a good high school (it was the academic magnet). We had very good teachers for the AP classes. Our classes were significantly harder than the other high schools in the city. IB might be a better option if your high school doesn't offer good AP classes.
