Internal zip on PCI IDE card and STILL locks system!

This is getting ridiculous. I bought an IDE card JUST for the internal zip drive. The primary IDE has the two hard drives, the secondary IDE has a CD-RW on it. The zip was on the secondary until I put it on the PCI controller by itself.

And it STILL locks the blankety-blank PC up! I have tried it with and without thr Iomega tools and it doesn;t seem to make a difference. And it doesn;t happen all the time either. ANy ideas?

I would look for an IRQ conflict as an easy out (look at the card in system manager and see what it shows there). But I think you may have to get into CMOS and make certain your mb is recognizing the card. I put a similiar card in an older mb and had to disable the auto detect then manually enable the card. Check the system profile first and make certain it's recognized and work from there. good luck

There are no conflicts in the Device Manager. I'm not sure what to change in the 8KHA+ mb bios. It shows the primary and secondary IDE controllers. When I boot up, the screen shows the PCI bios information and that the zip is there.

Any clues?

look in CMOS and see if it's detected there; that will tell you if there's a conflict that may not be showing in Device Manager. If it doesn't show up, then you have to manually configure it, and how to do that will depend on your mb's guide. Sounds like what happened to me.

I switched the zip to the secondary IDE and the CD-RW to the PCI IDE card and it still locks up. SO it HAS to be a win98 or BIOS problem and not related to the IDE itself.

Still not sure what to change in BIOS as mentioned earlier.
